Visiting students have a great academic experience at one of the leading insitutions for economic research in Europe and enjoy the student life, which permeates the city of Bonn: 38,000 students in a city with 320,000 inhabitants.

Our department and its researchers and professors enjoy an excellent reputation worldwide. This is confirmed by international rankings, such as the Tilburg Ranking the success in attracting renowned third-party research funds as well as numerous high-ranking prizes and awards for Bonn economists - notably the Nobel Prize for Economics to Reinhard Selten in 1994.

Even if our undergraduate program is taught mainly in German, we offer several courses in English in every semester, (Find the English courses here) and the Master program is taught entirely in English.

Bonn as the former capital of Germany offers insights both into German history and German culture: Spread throughout the city are numerous museums and galleries, cinemas, theatres, concert halls, restaurants, bars and clubs. Bonn is also home to various international organisations including the UN university, GIZ and Deutsche Welle, and thus offers a very international atmosphere. The beautiful 19th centrury architecture of the central city, the river Rhine as well as the Siebengebirge, a nearby Nature Reserve, is always worth a trip. Special events throughout the year are Carnival in February, the world famous Cherry Blossom in Altstadt in May, the diverse cultural events including open air concerts, cinema and theatre in the late summer months as well as the Christmas market throughout the city in December.

Universität BonnBonn is a medium-sized and bike-friendly city with well-developed public transport. In addition, the nearby Cologne-Bonn airport as well as convenient train connections make travelling throughout the country (Cologne, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Berlin, etc.) and Europe (London, Amsterdam, Paris) very easy.

The International Office  will provide you with general information to help you plan and prepare for your time as a student at the University of Bonn. Here, you can find practical information regarding the necessary formalities before and after your arrival in Bonn including enrolment, housing and language courses. The International Office also organizes a welcome week to help you socialize with your fellow international and German students.

The International Coordinator of the Department of Economics provides guidance with regard to the academic part of your stay at the University of Bonn. She welcomes you to the department,provides information on available courses and the way in which you need to register for examinations and signs your learning agreement.
