Econ Buddies & Social Tutor

Do you still have questions about studying and living in Bonn? Do you worry about doing some of the administrative things on your own – or about making the right decisions regarding your studies?

In order to make life easier for you and to help you find your way around Bonn and the Department of Economics, we have organized a study buddy program for Economics Master students, called the "Econ Buddy" program.

We would like to match small groups of 2-3 incoming students with one of our senior Master students who are in their third (or more advanced) semester. The idea is that you will be able to ask them all kinds of questions, to meet when you arrive or to get together for a cup of coffee or a glass of beer. How you want to do this, is totally up to you – being an econ buddy is not only about helping newcomers, but is also an opportunity to meet new people and possibly even make friends.

If you would like to get an econ buddy or are interested to become an econ buddy, simply fill in this form. (The form will be online after the admission period)

How do I get to know my fellow students?

The social tutor helps you to network with both international and German Master students, to get to know each other and make friends and ultimately make you feel more at home in our Master program. At the start of the semester, they put you in touch with your fellow Master students, organize events, and explain German institutions and German culture. During the semester, they organize social and cultural events and excursions, like weekly meetings in a café, chess games between lectures and a regular's table at a bar (Stammtisch).

They will support you if you need:

  • advice and support before your study program starts (e.g. housing market/accommodation, arrival, etc.),
  • directions from e.g. the airport, the main train station
  • assistance in dealing with authorities and obtaining a residence permit (visa, bank account, registration office, insurance, enrollment).
