Elective modules
In the elective area (90 CP), you can freely select your modules and thus design your studies individually. It is also possible to follow one or more thematic specializations when selecting modules. These specializations can be shown on the certificate if at least 36 CP from modules assigned to a specialization have been passed (except: "Quantitative Economics", 24 CP). The modules available for selection can be found in the module handbook. The following specializations are available:

Quantitative Economics
The specialization deepens micro- and macroeconomics as well as mathematical and statistical methods. The so-called "Master track" is recommended for students who are interested in the consecutive Master's degree course "M.Sc. Economics", with which the subject requirements for the admission requirements of the Master's degree course are met.

Economic Policy
Apply economic concepts and the relevant qualitative methods to selected economic policy issues. Upon graduation, you will be able to assess economic policy measures from an economic-argumentative perspective.
Typical professional fields: Management, management consultancy, financial sector, public institutions, NGOs.

Business & Finance
Gain in-depth knowledge of personnel and organizational economic aspects of corporate management as well as corporate accounting and financing. You will become familiar with a range of operational concepts and their effects and will be able to justify management decisions using economic arguments.
Typical occupational fields: Positions in senior and higher management in private and public companies as well as in ministries and non-profit organizations.

Data Science
You will learn how to analyze data sets and make well-founded, data-driven decisions. This includes preparing unstructured data sets, applying statistical methods, and visualizing and interpreting the results. The focus is on statistical and econometric methods and their computer-aided application in the field of economics.
Typical professional fields: Insurance, quality management, risk management, research, market and opinion research, quantitative management consultancy, e-commerce, energy sector, logistics.

Markets & Strategies
You will develop a deep understanding of the functioning, frictions, and strategic interactions in markets and market-like situations. The aim is to understand individual behavior and incentives in economic contexts and to model and analyze strategic interactions using tools from game theory and mechanism design.
Typical professional fields: Competition authorities (Federal Cartel Office, Monopolies Commission, Federal Network Agency), European Commission, in particular the Competition Directorate (DG Competition), consumer advice centers, strategy consulting, economic consulting, auction and purchasing consulting, management consulting.

Economics & Law
Get to grips with selected areas of law, in particular civil law and public law. Learn empirical methods for the economic analysis of legal regulations. You will learn about the connections and interfaces between economics and law and will be able to examine the economic consequences of legal regulations and justify them with economic arguments.
Typical professional fields: Auditing, tax consultancy, public administration, ministries.

Behavioral economics
In the Behavioral Economics specialization, you will acquire in-depth knowledge of behavioral patterns that lead to distortions in economic decisions. As a graduate, you will be able to use the concepts you have learned to identify, model, and analyze the characteristics of individual and strategic decisions in economic, political, and social contexts.
Typical professional fields: Economic research institutes, political consulting, personnel management, strategic management, ministries, (online) marketing, investment sector, incl. consulting, business analytics, and consulting.
