Bonn Graduate School of Economics
The Bonn Graduate School of Economics (BGSE) invites students from around the world to join our combinded MSc/PhD program in economics. At the BGSE, you will have the chance to study and do research, entirely in English, in a supportive and intellectually demanding environment. We foster a cooperative team spirit among our student body.
The BGSE pursues research activities in the following five research areas:

Our doctoral students receive grants to cover living expenses.
Many graduates of our doctoral program are now in leading academic positions.

Doctoral Program (PhD) with integrated MSc Economic Research

The Bonn Graduate School of Economics invites qualified students to apply for admission of the combined MSc/PhD program. Interested students with a bachelor's or master's degree in economics or related disciplines are welcome to hand in their documents until March 31, 2023.
Several days ago, a member of our University and of the Faculty of Law and Economics has been accused of severe misconduct in social media. Currently, we have no hard evidence concerning the accusations. The facts are currently being examined.
Hanna Schwank is new Assistant Professor in Economic History at the MacroFinance & MacroHistory Lab
How do pollution and climate change affect health and the associated costs? How do people adapt to their environmental conditions, and what factors are crucial for such adaptability? Julia Mink, new Professor at the Department of Economics Bonn, addresses these and other questions. In the Transdisciplinary Research Area "Individuals, Institutions and Societies", she will work at the interface of environmental and health economics. Starting in the winter semester, she teaches econometrics in the Bachelor Volkswirtschaftslehre.

On Tuesday, September 13, 2022, the Hermann Heinrich Gossen Award was awarded to Professor Christian Bayer. The Hermann Heinrich Gossen Award is awarded once a year by the Verein für Socialpolitik to an economist under the age of 45 from the German-speaking area for internationally recognized research achievements. The award is endowed with 10,000 euros. The aim of the award is to promote the internationalization of German-language economics. The main criterion for the award is publications in internationally recognized journals.
The latest “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022,” part of the widely respected Shanghai Ranking, has underlined the University of Bonn’s prowess in not one but several areas: besides taking top spot in Germany for Mathematics and Economics, it has also come third for Agricultural Sciences and Physics. And the University is even among the top 15 in the world in Mathematics, ranking it ahead of such luminaries as Harvard and Columbia.

The annual lectures are delivered by internationally distinguished experts and address a general audience interested in economic research.

BGSE's doctoral student exchange programs
The BGSE is a founding partner of the European Doctoral Program (EDP) and has established further exchange programs with other renowned universities abroad, such as Berkeley and Yale.

Department of Economics
The main research fields of our faculty include game theory, applied microeconomics, monetary and international macroeconomics, contract theory, labour economics and finance.

The BGSE is especially proud of the success of our graduates in the academic world but also in research-related organizations and in the private sector.
