Bonn Graduate School of Economics
The Bonn Graduate School of Economics (BGSE) invites students from around the world to join our combinded MSc/PhD program in economics. At the BGSE, you will have the chance to study and do research, entirely in English, in a supportive and intellectually demanding environment. We foster a cooperative team spirit among our student body.
The BGSE pursues research activities in the following five research areas:

Our doctoral students receive grants to cover living expenses.

Congratulations! Fabian Schmitz and Matthias Gnewuch graduated from Bonn Graduate School of Economics.
The annual Manchot Lecture will take place on November 16th at the Universitätsclub Bonn, featuring Professor Per Krusell, a renowned economist. Professor Krusell's lecture, delivered in English, will revolve around a theme to be announced later. The event, open to the public, invites everyone interested in current economics research. In the current QS ranking by subject, the Department of Economics is ranked 50th worldwide and 3rd in Germany. Depending on the subject, the subject rankings consist of 4-5 indicators such as academic reputation, reputation among employers, citations, or also the international research and publication network. Worldwide, 1,594 universities were ranked.
It’s that time again! On Saturday, July 8, 2023, the graduating class of 2022/23 will celebrate the successful completion of their studies at the Unifest. Online registration for the celebration is now open. We ask that all attendees register by June 2, 2023.
Moritz Schularick will become the new president of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) in June 2023. The Department of Economics thanks Mr. Schularick for his work in research and teaching over the past 10 years and wishes him much success in his new task.
Whether people invest in stocks depends on what they think about stockholders. This is what a team led by Luca Henkel, a member of the ECONtribute Cluster of Excellence: Markets & Public Policy at the University of Bonn, found out. The study has been published as an ECONtribute Discussion Paper.

The annual lectures are delivered by internationally distinguished experts and address a general audience interested in economic research.

The BGSE is a founding partner of the European Doctoral Program (EDP) and has established further exchange programs with other renowned universities abroad, such as Berkeley and Yale.

Department of Economics
The main research fields of our faculty include game theory, applied microeconomics, monetary and international macroeconomics, contract theory, labour economics and finance.

The BGSE is especially proud of the success of our graduates in the academic world but also in research-related organizations and in the private sector.
