Joel Mokyr has made a name for himself with his work on “identifying the prerequisites for sustainable growth through technological progress.” He “used historical sources to uncover the reasons why sustainable growth has become the new normal”.Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt focused on the concept of “creative destruction,” which describes how the market introduction of new and better competing products affects companies.

Aghion delivered the BGSE Manchot Lectures in 2008, joining a distinguished group of speakers in this renowned lecture series hosted by the Bonn Graduate School of Economics (BGSE). Remarkably, he is the sixth Manchot Lecturer to receive the Nobel Prize in Economics.
