Founded in 1875 as the first business school in Japan, Hitotsubashi University remains one of the country's most renowned institutions for business administration, economics, and sociology. Over the years, it has become Japan's premier institution for education and research in the social sciences. Its multiple campuses are mostly located in Kunitachi City in western Tokyo. It has a total of about 6,200 students, 900 of them are international students. The university ranks 2nd in Japan in the Shanghai Ranking in Economics and 5th in Japan in the Times Higher Education Ranking in Business and Economics (as of 12/2025).
Applications for a semester abroad in winter semester 2026/27 and/or in summer semester 2027 will be accepted until 31 January 2026.
