Tutors wanted for winter semester 2026/27

The Department of Economics is looking for tutors for the winter semester 2026/27.

Application period: May 18, 2026 - June 5, 2026

Application process:

The application process is organized by the study management. The tutors are selected by the lecturers. The lecturers will invite to an interview or send a rejection mail by 10.07.2026. The contracts will be concluded by the end of September 2025. The tutorials usually start in the 2nd week of the lecture period. To apply, please complete the application form below. The required documents must be uploaded as ONE PDF file (file name: Last name_First name). You will need

  • a curriculum vitae
  • a current transcript of records from BASIS

Contract Term:

The contracts are concluded for the period 12.10.2026 to 29.01.2027, during which time each tutor teaches two 90-minute tutorials per week.
Exceptions: "Principles of Economics": Contract term: 12.10.2026 to 26.03.2027. Mathematik Vorkurs (Mathematics pre-course, taught in German): Hiring period from mid September to October 11. Course period 28.09. - 09.10.2026, from Mon - Fri 2 x 90 minutes daily between 2 and 5 pm.

    • without a Bachelor's degree: Hired as a student assistant (SHK) with 8 hours/week and an hourly wage of € 15.20 = approx. € 528 monthly salary
    • with a Bachelor's degree: employment as a research assistant (WHF) with 8 hours/week and an hourly wage of € 16.00 = approx. € 556 monthly salary
    • with a Master's degree: employment as a research assistant (WHK) with 8.0 hours/week and an hourly wage of € 20.70 = approx. € 720 monthly salary; doctoral students with a Bachelor's degree are employed as WHF with 8 hours/week and an hourly wage of € 16.00.
    • As of 01.01.2026 the "mini-job" limit is € 603 (exempt from social security contributions and taxes); "midi-job" limit is € 2,000 (reduced tax and social security contributions)

    Please note that you must take out health and long-term care insurance in accordance with German law when you take up employment. Depending on the previous insurance in your home country, you must either take out student insurance with a statutory health insurance company in Germany (costs approx. € 105 per month) or private health insurance. Proof of this health and long-term care insurance must be provided in the form of a certificate and enclosed with your application documents.

    This applies to all students from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland who are employed as
    - SHK, WHF or WHK (WHK only if not compulsorily insured)
    - marginally employed persons (with the exception of students who are insured in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark or Luxembourg)

    Teaching Language:

    Most tutorials are taught in German. However, for the modules "Principles of Economics", "Applied Data Analytics" and "Mathematical Methods of Economics I", we are also looking for tutors to teach tutorials in English. You can apply separately for these via the application form (see link below). The tutorials for the module "Mathematics for Economists" from the Master's program are only taught in English.

    You can find an overview of the tutoring positions below. You should have passed at least the module in which you would like to tutor. Any additional requirements can be found in the "Remarks" column.

    Tutorial fo the course ... Remarks
    Principles of Economics (Tutorials in Microeconomics and tutorials in Macroeconomics) We are looking for tutors to teach either two tutorials in microeconomics or macroeconomics. The tutorials are mainly taught in German, a few in English.
    Applied Data Analytics Advanced master's or doctoral program; basic knowledge of working with Jupyter Notebook. The tasks include assistance in solving exercises, supporting the lecturer in correcting the weekly exercises and giving academic feedback to the participants. Teaching is mainly in German, 2-4 tutorials in English.
    Mathematik Vorkurs (28.09. - 09.10.2026) From Mondays to Fridays 2 x 90 minutes daily between 2 and 5 pm. The tutorials are only taught in German.
    Mathematics for Economists Minimum requirement: Bachelor's degree; fluent English (= language of instruction)
