German Lifestyle with an international touch

Bonn, as the former capital of Germany, offers a huge amount of history as well as culture: numerous museums and galleries, cinemas, theatres, concert halls, restaurants, bars and clubs. Through diverse international organizations like UN, GIZ and Deutsche Welle, Bonn has a very international character. The beautiful 19th-century architecture of the central city, the river Rhine as well as the Siebengebirge, a nearby nature reserve, is always worth a trip. Special events throughout the year are the celebrating carnival in February, the world-famous Cherry Blossom in old town Bonn in May, the diverse cultural events including open-air concerts, cinema and theatre in the late summer months as well as the Christmas market in downtown Bonn in December.


Located at the heart of Europe

Bonn is (320,000 inhabitants) a medium sized city, which makes it quite common to use the bike for travelling all over town. In addition, the public transport stucture is very well developed. If Bonn ever feels too small for you: Bonn is located in the heart of europe and perfectly connected for travelling inside Germany (Cologne, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Berlin...) as well as throughout Europe (London, Amsterdam, Paris...). The nearby Cologne-Bonn airport as well a great train connection make travelling very easy.

International students at the University of Bonn

Students from more than 140 nations are enrolled at the University of Bonn. The university's central International Office offers assistance before and during their studies, e.g. through a welcome service and the "Help Desk."

In addition, the International Office also promotes the exchange with German students via the International Club and the "Study Buddy Program". The International Club offers a semester program with excursions, discussion evenings, movie nights and theater visits. The facilities of the International Club are also available for other student events of individual faculties with their professors.

For students seeking to acquire or improve their lanugage proficiency, the International Office offers a broad program of German courses at various levels.
