Hendrik Hakenes conducts research at the Institute for Finance and Statistics at the University of Bonn and is a member of the Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute as well as the Transdisciplinary Research Area (TRA) “Individuals and Societies”.
His research focuses on areas including Green Finance, Corporate Finance, and Finance Theory. Particular attention has recently been drawn to his model for calculating individual CO₂ emissions, which extends traditional consumption-based calculations by incorporating financial decisions and additional societal factors. Through this work, Prof. Hakenes makes an important contribution to linking financial economics with sustainability research.
Prof. Hakenes has been admitted to the Academy’s Class for Engineering and Economic Sciences. Alongside him, Prof. Claudia Wich-Reif, a scholar of German studies, and Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge, a sociologist, were also newly elected to the Academy from the University of Bonn.
Founded in 1970, the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts is the only German academy that brings together both the sciences and the arts under one roof. Membership is granted exclusively to individuals who have distinguished themselves through outstanding scholarly or artistic achievements. The Academy currently has 406 members, including 285 full members based in North Rhine-Westphalia and 121 corresponding members.
