Financing your Studies

Fees and Tuition

The University of Bonn, much like other German universities, does not raise tuition fees. It offers free education for all students – both German and international. The costs that are involved to be able to do this are covered by the German taxpayers.

To enroll at the University of Bonn you will have to only pay a semester fee (the so-called "social contribution") of about €320. A semester ticket for public transportation throughout the entire state of North-Rhine-Westphalia is included in this service fee.

Additional information is available on the website of the International Office.

Cost of Living

The average monthly costs of living, including accommodation, food, books and medical insurance will amount to 950-1000 euros. This is just an estimate, however, since costs may vary widely according to the type of accommodation students are choosing. More information is available on the webpage of the International Office (please scroll down to "living expenses").

Scholarships

As the University of Bonn does not charge tuition fees, it also does not have funds for scholarships.

Some scholarships for exceptionally qualified candidates are available from various national organizations, such as e.g. the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Please check their homepage for further details. Additional information is available on the website of the International Office.
