We are delighted to announce that BGSE doctoral candidate Bjoern Höppner has been selected to participate in the 2026 REStud North America Tour.

A new study by the Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute, involving BGSE PhD candidate Philipp Schirmer, shows why people often draw different conclusions from company news than financial economics would suggest — and how much this has to do with the way they think markets work. Published in The Quarterly Journal of Economics.

The SOZIAHR research project at the University of Bonn is now launching a large-scale population survey to find out how people have fared in the five years since the Ahr Valley flood. Around 70,000 people are being invited to take part. Those who were registered in the municipalities of Adenau, Altenahr, Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, Sinzig, and Grafschaft on the reference date of the flood, and who still live there today or have moved at most once since then. The survey begins in early August and runs until the end of September. The results are planned to be published in April 2027.

Starting in the 2026/27 winter semester, the Department of Economics, in collaboration with the Institute of Computer Science, will expand its academic offerings to include a bachelor’s program in Economics and Computer Science. The program combines a solid foundation in economics with modern methods of computer science, thereby responding to the growing demands of a data-driven and digitalized economy

The Department of Economics and the Bonn Graduate School of Economics (BGSE) are introducing the Cläre Tisch Dissertation Prize in Economics, a new annual award recognizing outstanding doctoral research conducted within the BGSE. The prize will be presented for the first time at this year's Manchot Lecture.

Research thrives on interdisciplinary exchange. With this in mind, the Department of Economics and the Department of Law of the Faculty of Law and Economics once again came together on 10 June 2026 for their joint Faculty Research Day. A networking reception held afterwards offered participants the opportunity to continue scholarly discussions and foster connections across the faculty.
