Professor Dell is the Andrew E. Furer Professor of Economics at Harvard University. She is the 2020 recipient of the John Bates Clark Medal, awarded each year to an American economist under the age of forty who is judged to have made the most significant contribution to economic thought and knowledge.
Professor Dell's research focuses on economic growth and political economics. Her work examines, among other topics, the factors behind the long-run persistence of poverty and prosperity, the effects of trade-induced job loss on crime, the impacts of U.S. foreign intervention, and the effects of weather on economic growth.
Before the Manchot Lecture, the BGSE will present the inaugural CläreTisch Prize for an Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation in Economics at the University of Bonn to Dr. Christina Brinkmann, Assistant Professor of Finance, Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. On receiving the award, she will give a short talk on Financial and Labor Market Institutions followed by the Manchot Lecture.
